Inspired to Provide Affordable, Effective Continuous Improvement Programs. The Dynamic Duo of CPI Systems: Unmasking the Innovators Bridging Cybersecurity and Business
In today’s fast-paced and digital world, safeguarding business operations is paramount. This is where Vicki Delaney and Jim Goodrich step in. As representatives from Continuous Process Improvement, or CPI Systems, they’re making waves in the cybersecurity field by bringing their unique expertise to businesses worldwide.
A mechanical engineer, Vicki Delaney is no stranger to the management system business. Since 1994, she has helped over 300 companies attain certification to various ISO standards (International Organization for Standardization). She explains, “I’ve been in the management system business since 1994 and have assessed and helped over 300 companies become certified to any of the various ISO standards. Thirteen years of manufacturing engineering gives me a very strong background in manufacturing. That background is with almost every kind of industry you could imagine.”
Meanwhile, Jim Goodrich is an industrial engineer turned certified quality auditor. “I enjoy the Ah-Ha! moments that come from helping owners and top managers reach their improvement and certification goals. There is nothing better that setting measurable targets, then reaching them. Our systems help companies thrive.”
After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, he took a keen interest in ISO as a proxy for best practices. “I retired from the U.S. Postal Service as the Manager, Supply Chain Integration and before that, I was a Supplier Performance Strategies Manager. I am passionate about working with companies to improve their processes to meet requirements. As a quality engineer working with Lean and Six Sigma projects, I wanted to expand my business into ISO, so I sought out Vicki, the ISO simplification guru. She had a two-document system that made it easy for the companies I was consulting with to understand.”
Then, Jim entered the scene. A connection request on LinkedIn paved the way for an unexpected pivot. Jim’s interest in ISO simplification resonated with Vicki enough to steer her career trajectory back toward her domain of expertise. This interaction on LinkedIn marked the beginning of a joyous and successful partnership, leading them back to the ISO sphere and further into cybersecurity. Their shared dedication to improvement and quality continues to fuel their journey in transforming the cybersecurity landscape.
In the competitive world of cybersecurity consulting, what differentiates Vicki and Jim from the pack is their keen understanding of the crucial intersection between IT and business. Vicki provides a candid perspective, pointing out, “Unfortunately, a lot of consultants working in cybersecurity are really IT people. They don’t have a business background, so they don’t understand the impact of the entire organization on security. We do this so that people can start thinking about who in our organization is handling this type of information.” This gap in understanding can be detrimental to businesses.
The duo’s approach to bridging this gap enables organizations to holistically evaluate and understand their information handling practices, promoting a more comprehensive and effective security strategy. Vicki continues, “That’s our objective. We worry about the little guy. That’s generally my passion, and our mission is to, one, keep the cost down, two, make sure they understand what’s going on.”
When asked about any specific industries they work with, Vicki shares, “I would say all industries. We have clients that are in the business of providing labor. We have clients that are in logistics. We have clients that are electro-mechanical assembly or metal shops. My expertise is manufacturing, of course, and very little is made that I have not audited. Our passion is for the small company because they know they don’t have the bandwidth, and we can help the owner become compliant to whatever standard they have to be compliant to and help them grow their business.”
“I think that’s one of the most satisfying things that we do; it’s just more fun to see the revenue increase when the profits increase. It’s all about continuous improvement and making money,” she concludes.
Jim Goodrich’s philosophy extends beyond the typical perception of cybersecurity as a mere requirement for compliance. He understands it as an intrinsic part of a business’s revenue generation strategy and a crucial aspect of risk management. He emphasizes, “Cybersecurity is the same now in that it’s not just compliance; it’s actually doing things the right way to be secure, limiting your risk. And so it really is about risk management.” This understanding is transformative, turning cybersecurity from a daunting obligation into a strategic tool for business growth and stability.
Wrapping up our conversation, Vicki says, “I just want to emphasize that our focus is on you as a company. You may not know anything about ISO, Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), or cybersecurity. We will ensure you understand it by the time we’re through.”
Jim also invites people to reach out via LinkedIn or email, saying, “We’d love to talk with you and see how we can each work together to help the customers. We’re thrilled to be part of your improvement story.”
In a world where information is power, Vicki and Jim stand at the forefront, helping businesses protect their data and improve their processes. If you’re looking to boost your cybersecurity or understand the ins and outs of ISO or CMMC, reach out to Vicki and Jim. They’re more than willing to help you navigate the complexities of cybersecurity and guide your business toward a secure and successful future.
Vicki Delaney
Vicki's Motto is: Your ISO Quality Management System Should be an Asset, Not an Expense.
Vicki Delaney has a passion for efficient and effective ISO operations. Nothing drives her crazier than seeing an ISO 9001 quality management system that is cumbersome, useless and is a burden to the individuals tasked with maintaining ISO Certification.
She started auditing ISO 9001 in 1994 for ABS-QE and realized she had finally found her purpose in life. Vicki loves to find the money flying out the window due to poor business processes. She helps companies organize their processes to facilitate consistent cash flow and maximize the utilization of resources. Her tool is the ISO 9001 Quality Management System Standard.
Vicki (aka Victoria) has:
- 26 years’ experience evaluating, implementing and certifying organizations to ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and ISO 14001. She worked for ABS-QE, DNV, Moody International, and MCNA. Clients: Raytheon, Brokers Logistics, MTI, First Electronics AZ, An Viet.
- 10 years’ experience in manufacturing as a process engineer, quality engineer, and industrial engineer. She worked for United Technologies, Allied Signal, MASCO, and Fluor.
- Collaborated with executive managers to identify appropriate performance metrics and design solutions to ensure continuous improvement towards financial and quality goals.
- Expertise in PDCA process approach to simplify quality management systems.
- International experience auditing and consulting with clients in Canada, Mexico, India, China, and Vietnam. (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 13485)
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering and graduate studies in Material Science.
- 20 years providing dynamic Internal Auditor training which includes onsite audits to ensure the students understand a value-added approach to internal audits.
Vicki strongly believes that ISO certification costs have gotten out of hand. It is a struggle for small to medium-sized companies to maintain their ISO 9001 quality management systems due to insufficient resources and rising costs.
She also believes that every company needs a structure like ISO 9001, but it needs to be tailored to the specific company and designed to provide the data required for continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Vicki designed a simplified Quality Management System focused on reducing documentation and resources to manage the system. Companies that apply this system have reduced their documentation by 80%. Record keeping is in one place which facilitates easy input and lower resource use. The simplified QMS is designed to be used with remote ISO Certification audits.
She provides workshops for executive management and staff to identify risks and opportunities. The result is an action plan to address them and continuously improve their operations and cash flow.
Businesses are solely in business to make money. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure the entity thrives and prospers. It is Vicki’s pledge to help you nurture your business to achieve your wildest dreams.
